The conventional weapons category comprise weapons that were historically considered normal, but whose possession or use is now widely being refused on the humanitarian grounds. Significant experience of weapons use (rather than non-use) before they were outright banned, or regulated differentiate the cluster from non-conventional weapons. Currently three types of weapons or more accurately three sub clusters of regimes regulating state’s policies with respect to antipersonnel landmines, small arms and light weapons, and cluster munitions are listed in the database. Both arms-control (regulation) logics and disarmament (prohibition) logics are involved, and sometimes even intertwined in this cluster.
